Nicole Johnston began her career as a Legislative Aide in Madison, Wisconsin. Since then, she has managed various consumer advocacy programs. She has been a Project Director, Deputy Director and Interim Executive Director with the Central Coast Center for Independent Living, an advocacy
organization for people with disabilities and their families. She currently has her own consulting company providing program consulting and grant writing services to non-profit organizations.
After learning of the proposed oil and gas drilling near her neighborhood, Nicole founded the East Aurora Community Development group that provides her neighbors and community updated information on industrial projects near residential areas. She was appointed as the Citizen Member of the City of Aurora's Oil and Gas Advisory Committee.
Nicole also served as the Parent Representative on Aurora Public School's Year Round Calendar Committee. She gave the parent perspective on impacts of a year round calendar system and spoke to PTAs and the Aurora School Board on those findings. Nicole has been an advocate for military families for the last fifteen years. She served as the Marine Family Liaison at Buckley Air force Base.
She was also recently accepted into the University of Colorado Denver’s School of Public Affairs, ranked one of the top programs in the country. Nicole is pursuing her Master’s in Public Administration that focuses on government and nonprofit management. Nicole lives in the growing community of East Aurora and has three children who attend Aurora Public Schools.
